2023 - 2024
We are moving to a Trimester system!
Classes will now be offered in 3 sessions (Fall, Winter, Spring) consisting of between 11-13 classes each Trimester.
We are hopeful that this will allow families more flexibility!
If the class is a good fit, we encourage students to stick with the same group of students and instructor - this will maximize the musical growth of your child, as well as assist with developing social skills amongst their peers.
Fall, Winter, and Spring Trimester classes are available for registration TODAY!
We will be discontinuing the 10 Class Pass
We are committed to providing families with flexibility, which is why we have moved to the shorter Trimester system.
Research shows that consistency and repetition of class formats, activities, and songs yields the best educational experience for the children. We believe that eliminating the 10 class pass and moving to Trimesters will maximize the overall experience and education of your child!
Policy Updates
Trial Classes
If requested, we invite families to participate in one Trial Class before they sign up for the Trimester.
Students who would like to participate in a Trial Class need to email registrar@brooklynmusicschool.org at least 24 hours in advance.
There is a $30 fee for all Early Childhood Trial Classes.
After the Trial Class, students must enroll for the Trimester or try a different class.
Refunds
Refund requests must be submitted in writing
For refunds before the date of the first class, a full refund will be issued, less a 5% processing fee.
No refunds will be given after the fourth week of classes.
Registration Fee
Students (new and continuing) must pay a one-time registration fee of $45 per family for the Academic Year 9/2023 - 8/2024.
MUSIC BABIES (10 - 18 months)
Class Description: Students and Parents/Caregivers will engage in a variety of musical activities led by instructors fostering musical and educational growth. Instructors will introduce basic musical concepts such as recognizing sound and silence, finding the beat, and learning the difference between high sounds and low sounds. This will be accomplished through the use of instrument play, singing, expressive movement, and listening. Our trained instructors will implement interactive lessons while complementing the class with musical accompaniment and demonstration. Using Traditional songs and World music, Echo Songs, Finger Play, and Movement, students will be exposed to various musical styles and instruments including bells, sticks, and hand drums.

MINI MAESTROS (17 MONTHS - 2.5 YEARS)
Class Description: In this toddlers and 2’s music class, instructors will continue to introduce basic musical concepts and terms such as finding the beat, demonstrating the difference between high sounds and low sounds through movement, hearing the difference between fast/slow, and loud/soft. This will be accomplished through the use of Traditional songs, World music, Popular music, instrument play, singing, expressive movement, and listening. Our trained instructors will implement interactive lessons while complementing the class with musical accompaniment and demonstration. Using Echo Songs, Finger Play, and Movement, students will be exposed to various musical styles and instruments including percussion instruments and pitched instruments.

MEET THE INSTRUMENT I ( 2 - 3.5 YEARS)
Class Description: In this class, students will be introduced to different musical instruments and styles by the instructor and special guest professional musicians. This class explores musical concepts such as tempo, dynamics, and timbre through musical activities and games. During certain classes, BMS instructors will attend classes to introduce and demonstrate a variety of instruments. Early Musicianship provides a musical foundation for students and acts as a great jumping off point for private lessons.

MUSICAL EXPLORERS (2.5 - 4 years)
Class Description: Students will further their musical experience through Singing, Movement Activities and working with various instruments and props. Students will further their understanding of Voice and Musical/Instrumental recognition through early introduction to Instruments, Music and Movement activities, Echo songs, Call and Response, and Finger Play. Music ignites all areas of child development from intellectual and social to motor language and literacy. This program is designed to expose young children to Music in all its forms while also continuing the Early Education process to promote school readiness.

MUSIC & PLAYFULNESS (3 - 4 YEARS)
Class Description: Taught by the Music Therapy Department, this class stimulates the imagination and engages the senses. Come join us on a musical adventure in which we sing, move, improvise, and discover the playfulness of musical sound. This course cultivates social awareness, mind-body awareness, listening, focus, and discovery. Through playful engagement in the music, we will work to enhance self-regulation, stress reduction, and focus.

WORLD PERCUSSION ( 3 - 4 YEARS)
Class Description: The 3s and 4s World Percussion Ensemble class introduces a variety of world percussion instruments to students including various drums, shakers, and other percussion instruments. In this collaborative learning environment students play solo and in groups while exploring musical concepts such as rhythm, finding the beat, phrasing, and pitch.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT ( 3- 4 YEARS)
Class Description: Taught by our Dance Department, Creative Movement introduces children to dance and movement through the use of props and imagination in a fun, safe environment! This class will teach basic steps and rhythm while honing strength, gross motor skills, and body awareness in space. Using games, movement, improvisation and rhythm, children will gain balance, flexibility, and build self-esteem and confidence in a creative and supportive environment.
