The Brooklyn Music School’s Music Therapy Department offers a range of programming that promotes healing, connectivity, expression, and personal growth. We are at the forefront of creating exciting programming and community outreach. Our team of therapists and facilitators provide an array of programs designed to promote mindfulness, soulfulness and expressivity.
For all services, BMS offers a preliminary consultation, working with the clients and/or their families, to determine which programming may best suit the client’s needs.
What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs for individuals of all ages and abilities. Through musical involvement in the therapeutic context, clients' abilities are strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives.

Clinical Music Therapy
Clinical Music Therapy services are provided by our team of dynamic and compassionate board certified therapists and Licensed Creative Arts Therapists. For all Clinical Music Therapy programming, we facilitate individual and group music therapy services, targeting specific client needs and goals for growth and development.
After a personal consultation with a licensed music therapist, assessing the strengths and needs of each client, a determination is made with individuals/family members about the goals and direction of services. Practitioners provide the indicated treatment interventions, including instrumental improvisation, singing, song writing, active listening, recording, and/or performing. Through this co-creative process we work with the clients to explore and nurture their unique connection to music and actualize their healthy potentials.
As part of the BMS mission as a community music school, we aim to make programs accessible. To apply for Financial Aid, please click here.
