Class Description:  (Ages 5-6) The dynamic world of musical theater is explored in this introductory skills-building class. Students develop the basics of singing, dancing, and acting using songs and choreography from a wide range of popular Broadway musicals in a supportive environment. Students learn stage directions, basic dance steps and terminology, healthy vocal production techniques which include proper breathing, matching pitch and singing in an ensemble. Family and friends are invited to a performance at the end of the semester on the BMS Stage!

Class Description:  (Ages 7-8) In this class, will focus on the core areas of musical theater performance―Singing, Dancing & Acting using songs, scenes, and choreography from various contemporary and traditional musical theater material. Students develop musical theater skills such as movement and choreography, healthy vocal production technique, character development and confidence to help them prepare for upcoming productions!

Class Description: In this class, students develop the core areas of musical theater by strengthening techniques in singing, dancing, and acting. Each week students focus on specific skills and receive top-tier instruction from our teaching artist professionals. Students explore acting methods, script analysis, and how to create strong characters. For dance, students work on stretching and flexibility as well as study various musical theater dance styles. The singing instruction focuses on expanding healthy vocal technique and developing skills to build a character through song. Students integrate these skills and gain confidence as strong and engaging musical theater performers. This class culminates with a performance of Matilda the Musical Jr. in the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse! *Fee includes script and costumes*

ADvanced musical theater - BMS Encores

Ages 10 - 17

The Brooklyn Music School Encores is a performing vocal ensemble for students who love to sing and dance in front of an audience. This audition-based musical theater program trains students to perform solos, duets, and group numbers along with choreography for various Brooklyn Music School and community events. Team-taught by industry professionals, students gain top-tier instruction in song, dance, acting and performance while building dance skills and stage presence using some of Broadway’s greatest songs. This session culminates with a performance in the BMS Stage.

  • NOTE: Musical Theatre classes are meant to be taken multiple years in a row, or until the necessary skills are built to join the next level!

Policy Updates:

  • Refund requests must be submitted in writing

  • For refunds before the date of the first class, a full refund will be issued, less a 5% processing fee.

  • No refunds will be given after the fourth week of classes.

  • Registration Fee

    • Students (new and continuing) must pay a one-time registration fee of $45 per family for the Academic Year 9/2023 - 8/2024.
